Anyone have any idea of how long the background investigation takes once they receive your fingerprints? All of my other paperwork is done. I just need them to process and complete my BI. Can anyone share their experiences?
teacherlife62411Yes. I actually submitted the E-QIP a week before that. How long should it take? It's for a stateside position, but I am not sure if that matters.
hahaIt varies wildly. I have heard times of anywhere from 4 to 8 weeks. Longer or shorter is also possible. I haven't heard of a pattern of stateside being any better or worse but that doesn't mean there isn't one.
Made it overseas, but am stuck in a tiny tiny tiny living space on base because it was convenient. That said, I'm getting wheels tomorrow and am looking to stay somewhere my family can spread their wings a bit.
I had already...See MoreHi all. Everything else being equal (state-certified, adequate degrees, etc) If a DODEA candidate has significant experience teaching at university level, but no K12 experience, is that a deal-killer? I'm in the process of applying, and trying to gauge my chances, with the understanding that they're low in the first place? :)
I had already figured that y changes were low, but getting at the spot in the application where I have to submit my current and previous supervisors references, and looking a the list of allowable persons that meet the definition of "supervisor".
If your goal is...See MoreIt does put you at a disadvantage when you are being compared with candidates who have more relevant experience. It might also depend a bit on your subject area.
But, you never know when University experience might impress a principal who would feel that they are bringing rigor/higher level education to their team.
If your goal is DoDEA then you really should try to get at least a couple of years of K-12 experience. Then your University experience would be a plus, on top of the more relevant classroom experience.
How does the DODEA handle moving your classroom? I have a good collection of materials - last time I moved classrooms it filled my large SUV. I can thin it, of course, but what teacher ever wants to get rid of anything?
Dr. Ali FantIn 2012, I was told I had a Professional Materials (or something) baggage for such materials. The example given was a weightlifter trainer. I am seem to recall this form of baggage did not count against your Unaccompanied Baggage (Hold Baggage) and Household Goods (HHG). There is probably a lot of baggage types I do not know.
hahaMu understanding is that teachers can live on base but there might be a waiting list depedning on when you arrive. Try joining and posting on the DoDEA FB page for specific questions about Iwakuni. Also, some regular posters were hired at Iwakuni this year and might post here on the subject.
Yes, food and temporary housing usually come out of the per diem rate. Estimates vary on how much you need stashed to get settled in but a few thousand is probably a must (and/or some room on credit cards). Once you arrive you can request a 3 month salary advance which generally takes from 2-4 weeks to get.
You should also be ready to put out first, last and security on permanent housing. For more specific information on Guam you should probably join and post on the DoDDS FB page if you have not already.
italiangirl896Oh, my! This original post sounded like a foreign language! Ha. I need to learn all these acronyms. Anywhere I might find the meaning for all of them? :)
Hi, is anyone teaching in Guam? I got my tentative offer yesterday and I'm super excited. Would love to hear experiences from anyone who's worked there. Thanks!
ESLTeachI know what you're talking about Literacy Rocks, the university I attended for graduate school recently started sending official transcripts in an emailed PDF option. They are definitely considered official copies. I was excited to see the option, though a little wary at first.
Also, I am a little puzzled why they are looking for a new hire this late in the year? Half the year is about all ready finished. Is this common practice to hire midway thru the year - or are they hiring super early for next SY?
