If I am busy at work once I arrive at my duty location how can my husband handle all the other important matters without me? Like appointments with housing, getting a CAC card etc. I read somewhere I would need a power of attorney...or ????
hahaI recall they sent my provisional to me via email. If you still haven't received it I would follow up with whoever is your area licensure person is.
DodeaHopefulTeacherMaMa... Email them. They only put on your license what you were hired for. NOT what you can actually teach. I am jealous... I was a new hire this year and they still haven't sent mine
FrankThanks for the feedback haha. Yeah, I have no plans of litigation or anything like that. It did seem like the principal was trying to be interested and friendly, rather than holding it against me or anything.
Also, we got our first month's rent and realtor's fees back as a lump sum within a couple of weeks of filing for LQA with the remaining estimate of rent/utility costs being divided over the rest of the year.
We also twice have requested a salary advance and received it within 3 weeks both times (but maybe we just got lucky).
Also worth noting that in Korea they apparently give you the entire year of estimated rent and utilities in advance rather then doling it out every paycheck.
No realtor fee and no down payment or first month's rent. We moved into our apartment within a week of signing the lease (we moved in Sept 1st) and we will hand deliver a year's worth of rent and utilities (LQA) to our landlord this week.
I am unclear about the general education requirements. By the time I will apply, I'll have a WA state teaching license in elementary education. I will have met the student teaching requirement, the professional teacher education requirements and have met the criteria for elementary teaching specialization.
However, I completed my Bachelor's degree in the UK and my undergraduate credits are all in Spanish and English. I did not take classes over a variety of subjects (math, science, philosophy etc.) because in the UK you specialize in one or two areas right from the beginning of your degree. On the website, it says that 40 hours of general education hours should be distributed over multiple subjects. Does this mean that I won't be able to apply? How do they evaluate the general education coursework?
California SunYou will probably be able to add English and Spanish to your certifications. And i believe if you are state certified the amount of credits are not as substantive. I would call and ask the Dept that reads transcripts for a better understanding.
HopefulCalifornia Sun- Not sure if you'll see this, but... I believe that you said in another thread that you are a new ISS hire. Would you be willing to "talk" via email with me about this?
Dr. Ali FantWhen Wishbone and I went to Poland in January 2007 for a non-DoDEA ESL job, many airlines would take doggy as cargo because of the cooler weather.
In my digging around, I found the regulations regarding performance appraisals. This was on the DoDEA website, and hasn't been updated since 2001. Is that really the most recent policy? It can be found here: http://www.dodea.edu/Offices/Regulations/upload/3000_1.pdf
BubbleHeadAnecdote about the DoD. The Lube oil purifiers on the Nuke Sub I was stationed on 95' to 99' are the EXACT same ones on WWII era diesel submarines.
Most people seem pretty happy with it as it is fairly benign and does not call for formal observations in 2/3 years of the PGP cycle.
BUT, DoDEA has introduced a new performance appraisal system this year. The only problem is that our union believes that the "current" system was a negotiated agreement and that DoDEA can't just change it without discussion and input from the teachers. So, we're probably looking at litigation/arbitration on the issue.
I recently submitted an application and was only given a choice for 2018/2019 school year. Is it possible to make my application visible for jobs this school year?
Dr. Ali FantIf you want to try for this school year, you can send a email request to the EAS Administrator. I did this a few years ago, and they updated my application for the present school year. In my case, I had left the previous SY selection unchanged by accident.
HelpOthersTo clarify. He is still currently enrolled and taking classes with Sulllivan's but University of MD starts its next quarter next week, so he will have an overlap in classes for a few weeks. I was worried a gap would cause more problems than an overlap, especially, since he finds his current classes to be pretty easy (mostly electives).
