I have spent 25 years teaching in the state of Florida. I have fulfilled my parental obligations and hubby is retired. I am very interested in The DoDea. What happens to my state years towards retirement?... how long till I'm vested with Federal pension?
So I interviewed for a DoDDS position and I went into my application to make sure it was the most up to date resume and it says DoDEA staff is currently processing application you will not be able to make changes at this time. I haven't heard if I was selected for the job yet... is this a good sign?
teacherlife62411Where did you see this? Did you apply at the DoDEA website, or was it through USA jobs? I am trying to see if mine says the same thing.
BubbleHeadAs far as (1) goes send the Employment Verification form and a self address stamped envelope to the Human Resource Department. They will fill in the information for all your work experience in the district I sent EV to 3 different counties, it took about two weeks for 2 to get back and im still waiting on the third.
hahaOnly full time teacher of record experience counts. Agree that HR and/or district will/should take care of the form. As long as your years are right it doesn't matter for salary purposes.
teacherlife62411The same exact thing happened to me, and the weird thing is that it was a referral to the same base for the same position. Weird, right?
my hubby and i moved ourselves overseas to work at a German international school (he's also is in the army reserves here). he wants to teach at either a DODDs or a DDESS school. Does anyone know:
1) if he gets a job offer in the US, will they move us or do we have to move ourselves?
2) since we already live in Germany, if we get a job offer in the EU, will we qualify for LQA?
3) can anyone give me a website to refer to or any info on how the whole transfer program and "groups" (example C,D, F) work?
Some people just use a permanent US address a...See MoreYou can be hired while living/working overseas and receive RAT, LQA, relocation, etc. but it is not always straightforward and/or guaranteed. Generally the thresh hold for qualifying is that your current overseas employer offered you relocation and housing as an incentive to relocate overseas.
Some people just use a permanent US address and downplay the fact that they are overseas but this can be problematic if you plan on listing your int'l school for experience and a reference.
We were hired while teaching in China. They apparently would have moved us from China but then China would have been our home of record and we didn't have any furniture there. So, we used the moving allowance from our int'l school to ship our stuff to our new posting, went on vacation back to the states and then had them ship belongings and issue tickets from our permanent stateside address.
If he gets hired by a DoDEA stateside school they are not likely to pay for any relocation expenses.
Most of the interviews I have had with DoDDS were the same 7 questions (e.g. Why DoDDS?, Tell me about a successful lesson you did with planning, differentiation, assessment, Tell me about a time you had a challenging situation and how you dealt with it, Tell me etc).
Even when I flew to DC for the Job Fair type interviews they used to do, it was the same 7 questions. When I interviewed with a principal for my first DoDDS position 3 months later, he asked me the same 7 questions. I often wondered if he had even read my original answers or whether he was checking to see if my answers had changed.
I did have one SPED interview where they asked me about my experiences with an age/disability group specific to their school and how I would deal with certain situations. Be ready to talk about assessment, developing IEPs, working as a multidisciplinary team, etc.
1. How do you convey expectations to parents and students? 2. What is your classroom attitude at the beginning of the SY? 3. Describe a recent classroom lesson you found very useful. 4. Explain how you differeniate the lesson for different skill levels 5. How do you use Formative/Summative Assessments and Scaffolding? 6. What was an especially traumatic event in your classroom, how did you handle it, and what would you do differently the next time? 7. Do not remember.
Im a state certified Social Studies teacher and Im trying to figure out what other subjects I might qualify for. I have 30 SH in Science (12 in physics) but only 8 are upper level. Should I submit for for secondary and middle science or try to take another UL science class first before submitting.
BubbleHeadThanks for the information. I submitted social studies in May but haven't been evaluated yet. I just had my military credits evaluated by Excelsior College (I got 21 science credits from them) so I have to take a class there before i can get an official transcripts from them showing all my science classes.
If I can call what number I need to dial? So far I only spoke in the past with HR persons when I had general questions about the application process and particular situation that apply to my case..I am.now eligible to be considered for local hire preference and I am 3 credits short to get qualified for math subject.
sunnyThank you all for the info you provided. Indeed there are two initials ( LT) next to the last date of re-evaluation. I will try to call them? And also send am.email as texasgirl siggested. Thanks a lot. .
Generally you would get some type of pension benefit after 5 years with DoDEA but the details beyond that can be complicated.
