Does anyone know if having an arrest on your record is a deal breaker? 15 years ago, I was arrested for shoplifting (embarrassing, I know) and I recently lost an opportunity because of it. According to the employer, it was because I didn't disclose it on my application, not because it was on there. It has NEVER come up before at any of the other jobs that I fingerprinted for, so it wasn't intentional that I left it off... but I digress... It was a misdemeanor. and it was when I was a high school drop out and making many poor choices (among them, the company that I kept). I have since obtained 2 undergrad and 1 graduate degrees, started a family, and I couldn't be more removed from that time in my life. Does anyone know if that will be enough to hold me back? If they extend a tentative offer, will they rescind it after my background comes back (that is what happened at Florida Virtual School). someday I would say just make sure you disclose the arrest.

The interview went so well, I just didn't want to mess it up.
