Regarding positions at HQ, does anyone know the process and timeline once the interview has been conducted and your references have been contacted? Are you notified if you weren't selected? If so, how? I'm sure it's different than the process for interviewing with principals.
JJJ123I was interviewed in April 2016 on a Friday. I received a tentative offer the next week. It took a while to process the security paperwork, travel paperwork, and household goods shipment. My first day was in the middle of July.
I was contacted via email for a job overseas and asked to submit answers to questions so they can streamline their interview process. Should I call the person himself, submit questions only, submit questions with resume and cover letter, submit questions and wait it out?
Today is my last day at my school here in Florida, and while I'm attempting to pretend to have my head in the game there, my husband will be at home managing the HHG packing process. It still hasn't fully sunk in that I got this job, it's mine, and this is happening.
hahaYes, you or someone at the school should make reservations somewhere once you know your arrival date. The guest accommodations on base are usually convenient. In Germany there are usually nice guest houses close to base if the base is full.
Yes, generally you need to pay and will get reimbursed through your TQSA money.
Also, School Psych. openings/positions are relatively rare which limits your odds. SPED however is a very good area to be certified in. Try to get DoDEA qualified in as many SPED categories as possible to increase your chances.
Most teaching couples end up playing the long game with DoDEA, meaning one gets hired and the other subs and waits for an opening (being in the area gives you an advantage in hiring).
IdaMy husband and I both applied for four years. He was hired first, the. I was hired as a local hire (I won't get my firm offer until he finishing his in-processing paperwork). I think this is more common than two people getting hired CONUS at the same time as haha mentioned. That I think would be very difficult.
hahaSad but true. Being hired for your dream job really shouldn't be quite so arbitrary and subject to an individual persons whims and interpretations.
Hello--do most sped teachers with HI endorsement, have other sped certs as well? I am looking into sped district positions and/or HI teaching positions, but want to be as competitive as possible.
SandArtThe secretary and the ET picked me up in school vehicles, so I did not offer gas money. Will definitely bring them lunch or something. I love IWAKUNI!!
In 2 years, I only have been referred to a school in Japan...See MoreHas any CONUS applicant been interviewed for a social studies position in Germany, Belgium, or the Netherlands in the last 2 years? I've been listed as qualified in EAS for the past 2 hiring cycles, I'm a veteran, and I have a very strong resume with 9 years of teaching experience.
In 2 years, I only have been referred to a school in Japan, which I don't count since it's not one of my preferences. My wife is German so we want to go to Europe to be close to family….BUT NOTHING!
Has there not been a single outside social studies hire in any of the 12 high schools in Germany, Belgium, or the Netherlands? Or have all open positions gone to local hires / military spouses?
I remember at a school I taught at the school nurse was the Spanish teacher, there was a K-1 teacher, a 2-3 teacher who taught art, a 4-6 language arts and social studies teacher who taught P.E. and a 4-6 math and science teacher who taught school-wide STEM. Without all the additional certifications and flexibility of these teachers, they never would have been able to make it all work.
If you're interested in similar opportunities to DoDDS but are only willing to go to Europe, check out TIE Online. They list different international schools that also have competitive salaries and other benefits. DoDDS is nice because the schools are networked among other benefits, but you're going to have to be willing to be flexible in some area or be willing to wait 10 years or so until you get your first referral.
