I have a M.A. in special education and am currently pursuing a Master's certificate in ABA. I am certified Pre-K - 12th grade, but I also teach adult education for a local university, so I have experience with older students as well. I lived overseas when I was married and worked as a substitute for the Dodds schools in Schweinfurt and Bad Kissingen Germany, so I am familiar with living and working overseas. I have also lived in Korea. My continuing education focus has been primarily with Autism Spectrum Disorders and Behavior disorders, but I have a diverse group of learners in my class with multiple disabilities. I am working on a federal resume, but am having trouble finding a job description for the teaching positions so that I can tailor my resume to that specific listing. Those only seem to be available to people who are already in the system. SO...what can I expect? What suggestions might you offer? Is there a critical shortage area for special education in Dodds like there is most other places?
hahaPS. The only shortage area I have seen recently was when a school attempted to hire a VI/LIMM combo and there was only one qualified person in the system and they turned down the job (so it went unfilled).
hahaIt does vary wildly from location to location obviously. But in general if someone is open to many possibilities (e.g. supply person, working at the Bowling Alley, commissary, subbing, teaching English, etc)) and really commits to it they will find something which can eventually turn into something meaningful, managerial, etc.
What is the deal with Guam Is Guam considered overseas Do you get the same benefits as overseas is it a good place to be what are the schools like what about health care PX commissary etc.
I have generally heard positive things about the facilities available on Guam with the stipulation that obviously you have fewer options for everything given the nature of being isolated on an island. Basically, if you are up for an island life and are fairly self-contained and/or love the outdoors, water sports etc then it could be a good place for you.
hahaNo. Probably something that sounded tough during the election but that he has no intention of actually doing (like lock her up). Even if he did really want to, I don't see Congress actually doing it.
As for backfill it is not always entirely clear how it works/who gets priority since it is an ongoing, domino type of process. I think if they can see a clear first this, then that type of scenario with the first round of moves then they might place and backfill with certain people in mind.
Filling the list is the priority but placing people with the highest rating does come into play. But if there is an opening and no has the certs and the location listed on their transfer application then they will look further down the transfer pool (for original transfer positions and for backfill) until the allocated money runs out.
I'm curious about the transfer round. I understand there are groups A-F with F being the "lowest on the totem pole". I also understand that not everyone will get a transfer. Is it feasible for someone in the F group to get a transfer because they are the only one with a random combo such as speech/art/math but someone in the A or B group to not get...See MoreI'm curious about the transfer round. Is it feasible for someone in the F group to get a transfer because they are the only one with a random combo such as speech/art/math but someone in the A or B group to not get a transfer because there were only a few positions in their certification and it went to the few people higher on the list? And how about backfills? Say someone in the A group gets a transfer and there are people in the A group not placed - will they give those people the backfills, before they place someone on a lower list in a (different position)? I guess what I'm asking is - if a hard to fill combo position is available, and the only applicants who apply for it are in a lower group like D-F, will they fill it with them, or will they instead allocate the transfer money to place as many A's and excessed teachers as possible (knowing that the money runs out eventually). Do they look at the open positions, and try to fill as many of them, or do they look at the list of people trying to transfer and try and place the highest groups. What is the priority? Placing the A's and excessed educators (using backfill if necessary), or filling the original list?
