hahaThere are always positions opening in all districts due to retirements, promotions etc. Unfortunately, from my understanding all of the assessment, rating and hiring of administrative candidates is done at HR/District level. Principals don't really have any say or input in hiring their assistant principals (again, from my understanding).
Are bases in Germany growing? I read something about 4,000 troops being sent to Germany. Is this temporary or could it mean an increase in enrollment at the schools?
To have ready to go after they accept a DODDS position? Passport, House on the market (if applicable)...what else? Looking to go go over seas soon...my DDESS job is likely going away next year, trying to get my ducks in a row. Also, one of my friends thaat took a job over seas in Japan said that cost him 10Gs to move there...why is that?
Also worth thinking about: Storage or selling any belongings that you wouldn't be moving with you. Setting up arrangements to take care of anything you won't be around to handle (banking, loans, pets, relatives). Much would depend on your personal situation and much of that is hard to make decisions about when a move to DoDDS is only theoretical at this point.
As for moving to Japan with DoDDS it should cost you basically nothing. All shipping and flights are taken care of by DoDDS. The only thing you would be responsible for would be fronting some money for temporary housing costs (which would begin getting reimbursed within a couple of weeks) and some fees when actually moving into a house (which again would be reimbursed within a couple of weeks usually). Also, you could apply for a 3 month salary advance once you reach your new post which again would take a couple of weeks to get to you.
So, virtually no costs to you but a good idea to have savings or room on credit cards to cover some costs until they are reimbursed.
Does anyone know what the restrictions are on baggage for a DODDS teacher on their first PCS? I'm flying American Airlines on orders, does that qualify for the international military luggage policy? Will I need a military ID (I don't receive my CAC until I get to the school)?
The good news is that your orders should say you are authorized for extra baggage. This won't make the airline give it to you but you can submit the extra fees and be reimbursed by DoDDS so make sure you keep receipts etc.

With a whole list of things I have to do before I leave, but they sent me the original travel orders from last month when I was supposed to leave-- which was a month ago, I hope they fix it on Monday so I can start the process for moving. I waited for so long and things are happening so fast to leave now !!! Crazy!!!
Couple of QuestionsThey made us assign a person in case we were gone for our HHG shipment, but we got a date in the time frame we had requested so we were there.
Do the cell phones here work overseas or do you have to get a new phone? I am pretty sure they do not have Verizion or Sprint over there but can you use the phones on another network overseas?
We also had a backup pay-as-you-go phone from the states. When one of my...See MoreGet your cells unlocked before you leave the US. We had our AT&T cells unlocked and we could just put in a Vodafone sim card here and use our same phones. Your provider should do it for you if you've met your contract agreement and are not still paying on a phone.
We also had a backup pay-as-you-go phone from the states. When one of my kids lost theirs, I went online and found a company you pay and they provide you an unlock code. (Depends on the phone how much it'll cost, I think I paid $12)
Many are older but you can usually find a range of models/ages. Also there will generally be military friendly used car lots near most bases which can be a good source for cars and people who can make the inspection/registration process much easier. You would be exempt from some of the VAT etc taxes in most places with the proper forms.
sunnyI saw your post just now. Did you receive info on the clearance process by now? If not I can give some info on how this is done. What about official passport? Have you got the paperwork/instructions ?
