Most of the interviews I have had with DoDDS were the same 7 questions (e.g. Why DoDDS?, Tell me about a successful lesson you did with planning, differentiation, assessment, Tell me about a time you had a challenging situation and how you dealt with it, Tell me etc).
Even when I flew to DC for the Job Fair type interviews they used to do, it was the same 7 questions. When I interviewed with a principal for my first DoDDS position 3 months later, he asked me the same 7 questions. I often wondered if he had even read my original answers or whether he was checking to see if my answers had changed.
I did have one SPED interview where they asked me about my experiences with an age/disability group specific to their school and how I would deal with certain situations.

I too, after pretty much being reassured at the beginning of August, expected to be shipped out before school started. I gave notice to my school. I have exhausted my financial reserves and am surviving off a loan from my parents to pay my mortgage and other bills. I've gotten the same round around about the delay in background checks due to revisions within security operations whatever that means. I've already amended my orders twice. My current orders will expire on the 27th. I took a personal leave and put my house up for rent for this opportunity. I can't get a renter in until I know exactly when I will be leaving. I could request to return to work here where I live. However, that would be the point of no return when or IF my orders ever come through. I feel like I've come this far to give up on this opportunity. However this is turning out to be a big financial disaster. To make matters worse I shipped my dog from FL where I live to my brother in AZ back on August 13th in preparation of my first travel date which would have been August 20th. It was a tough enough decision to leave him behind for 6 months to avoid quarantine, but to be stuck home without him adds insult to injury. I wish everyone in this situation the best of luck. Sadly, I'm not sure how much longer I can afford to wait.
niknakBy the way I had my interview on July 1st, my tentative offer on July 20th, and accepted offer on the 21st. I returned all the required paperwork by August 10th. I kept asking about not receiving my fingerprint card. Turns out that was an oversight. My fingerprints and e-Qip were completed by 8/19 and I'm still waiting.

Recently I interviewed for a position with DODEA. This position is shared among schools so in all fairness to admin, I was asked for a second interview with the other school I would be working with. At the end of the interview, the principal verified my references and asked for another principal/admin reference. She spoke of the importance that the references respond ASAP or they would move on to the next candidate. The next day, all my references had received an email requesting info on me as a candidate. Fast forward two and a half weeks later and I hadn't heard a word. I gave HR a call yesterday and was informed the position had been filled. My question is that, is it normal to contact references and assuming everything checked out on the up and up, not offer the candidate a job? I know for a fact my references would have been positive so I'm perplexed as to why I was passed up. Now all my administrators know I'm looking for another position which I know is part of life but makes things a little uncomfortable when they think you may be jumping ship on them. Thanks for your input.
It's no consolation but admin in general are very poor HR people. And when they have chosen someone else they often act like your dog who has made a mess and just slink away from everyone else. Someone who has gotten as far as you did in the process deserved a simple email explaining that they went another direction. Good luck with future applications.
NCTECHIEYes, thanks so much for the support. The coin flip was not in my favor. I agree haha in that a simple email would have been nice at the very least. At this time, I still haven't received one bit of correspondence that I was not selected for the position. Seems very unprofessional and careless on their part.
Anyone know how many days I could request leave for the unpacking of my household goods as a CONUS hire? I plan to request for 2 days. The leave I would be requesting would be under other paid leave.
hahaUsually up to 3 admin days for those types of things is reasonable. In reality admin has the discretion to sign off on more if other moving in tasks come up..
Anyone have experience shipping a car to Japan? It is a 2015 model, and I heard that I would have to pay for the Japan inspection fees, which I am willing to do.
uh89It's not simply inspection fees. When I moved to teach at Camp Zama a number of years ago, I had to leave my almost new Subaru behind here in the states because it would not have passed the Japanese emission standards. Very expensive if not impossible to get this fixed.
Just received an hour ago an interview request for "Educational Technologist for an Elementary & Middle High School" from the principal at Sasebo Elementary School. Any useful information would be appreciated.
Thank you for the information. I also received a direct email interview request without an accompanying EAS Referral. I spoke to the Principal via telephone and she seemed pleasant enough and readily took my telephone call. She told me they had a "long list of candidates" for the job. Her only concern was my present location in China. I assured her I would fly back to Alaska within a 5 day hire notice at my own expense and then process out of Fairbanks Fort Wainwright. The school is looking at a probable one-month processing time for the eventual candidate. EAS shows my permanent address as Fairbanks.
I interviewed for a position and I really hope it went well.(I think it did?) But is it normal to start a position after the school year starts? Now I am just waiting to hear back. How long does one usually wait after an interview if they are offered and if not offered, do we hear a nice, "Sorry, but we chose someone else..."?
rcoachOh you all are amazing. Thank you for sharing your experiences. It actually makes me feel so much better knowing that other people have waited and waited and then actually got the offer. I absolutely will keep hope. I appreciate you all! :)
I received an e-mail from DDESS for a FLES position. It is for a part time seasonal position. Just wondering what "seasonal" means and any chance part time (20 hrs/wk) would include benefits. Also, can I still get into DODDS overseas if I take a stateside DDESS position? Is there an advantage/disadvantage?
hahaSeasonal just means we only work during the school year. Half time positions with DoDDS generally qualify for half benefits so I would think that DDESS is the same (but obviously double check if you are interested).
