kgteachThan you all for replying. This is good information. Im worried about having enough time to notify my principal of my resignation. I want to at least give 2 weeks notice before I depart. Are you allowed to pick your start date?
hahaYou can't exactly pick your start date but you request a certain travel date (as I recall) when you apply for your orders. The travel date on your orders is generally considered a travel on or around that date which is within 10 days or so. So there is some wiggle room in most situations.
hahaQuite a few are still open and word has it that some have not been hired for (and some have been hired for but are still waiting for the person to report). Sorry to not have more specifics than that.
You should keep a detailed inventory o...See MoreBut site still broken apparently. Generally yes, although it is up to the individual movers'/moving company's discretion. Technically they are supposed to pack/verify the condition of everything but generally don't seem to care all that much if you prepack (and yes we used plastic bins for many items.
You should keep a detailed inventory of each box as they will only keep a general inventory (e.g. Box 1: Kitchen supplies/dishes, etc). Generally they want to pack/verify all electronics.
Please Advise. I completed all paperwork mid-July go suggested travel date of August 9, but background check is still pending, so my Travel Orders can't be released. What could be taking so long? Thank you!
niknakWanderer haha to the black hole comment. It truly is an abyss. Just to worn you don't think your going to escape right away after you get cleared. Like I said earler 7 days post clearance and I'm still waiting on orders.
LaMaestraI feel a little relived to know its not just me! I have been waiting since the middle of August! We rushed to get everything together only to hurry and wait!
I was wondering... can you pack up some things before the movers come? If so, can it be in plastic bins? Should you do an inventory for each container??? TIA
We have found a place to rent and with all the fees and deposits we need to pay about $18,000. I understand that we can request a three month advance in salary to pay for this, but are we ultimately reimbursed for these fees or is it all out of pocket for us?
This time around the housing office made sure that we were dealing with landlords that would not expect key money (and our rent is actually less then when we were here 8 years ago, for a bigger, nicer house). So we only had to come up with security, 1st month and realtor fees all of which we got back within 2 weeks or so (except the deposit which you get back when you leave the house).
InsightUpdate for all you... I am now able to be released from my position once a replacement is found.... I am in the same boat as many of you as I am waiting on background check to be completed. I am just glad the school understands and is patiently waiting with me. However do you find yourself getting nervous?????
niknakGlad to hear things worked out for you. Welcome to the waiting game. I literally got my orders about an hour ago. I think HQ finally got sick of me. As far as being nervous....oh yes indeed! Nervous, anxious, excited, frustrated, you name it I've felt it.
...See MoreI am working as quickly as I can through the mountain of paperwork required to get there. I sent passport papers in, and should have medical and supporting documents in by Monday. How long will it take to get my travel orders?
Is there somewhere I can find a checklist and sequence of stages? I feel like I am moving in the dark.
Also, any recommendations about teaching materials or supplies I should take with me now? I will obviously not be there on the first day of school, its August 29.
