kgteach Than you all for replying. This is good information. Im worried about having enough time to notify my principal of my resignation. I want to at least give 2 weeks notice before I depart. Are you allowed to pick your start date?

haha You can't exactly pick your start date but you request a certain travel date (as I recall) when you apply for your orders. The travel date on your orders is generally considered a travel on or around that date which is within 10 days or so. So there is some wiggle room in most situations.

haha Quite a few are still open and word has it that some have not been hired for (and some have been hired for but are still waiting for the person to report). Sorry to not have more specifics than that.

But site still broken apparently. Generally yes, although it is up to the individual movers'/moving company's discretion. Technically they are supposed to pack/verify the condition of everything but generally don't seem to care all that much if you prepack (and yes we used plastic bins for many items.

Background Check

Please Advise. I completed all paperwork mid-July go suggested travel date of August 9, but background check is still pending, so my Travel Orders can't be released. What could be taking so long? Thank you!

Rent deposit and fees?

We have found a place to rent and with all the fees and deposits we need to pay about $18,000. I understand that we can request a three month advance in salary to pay for this, but are we ultimately reimbursed for these fees or is it all out of pocket for us?

haha No, it's not that bad. The $12500 was when we here before without DoDDS. It was a brand new house and the landlord had never rented to non-Japanese before.

Insight Update for all you... I am now able to be released from my position once a replacement is found.... I am in the same boat as many of you as I am waiting on background check to be completed. I am just glad the school understands and is patiently waiting with me. However do you find yourself getting nervous?????

niknak Glad to hear things worked out for you. Welcome to the waiting game. I literally got my orders about an hour ago. I think HQ finally got sick of me. As far as being nervous....oh yes indeed! Nervous, anxious, excited, frustrated, you name it I've felt it.
