I'm not sure if this has been answered or not but I recently was hired for an overseas position and did not qualify for LQA. Would I still receive flight and COLA?
IcanreadInteresting. I bet it has something to do with your certs and a position that they were having a hard time filling.
Yes, this definitely does seem to be the year of not qualifying for LQA for many people. Interesting that they are just now starting to enforce these ever-changing rules.
HelpOthersYes, but you may want to go through the actions as thought they might go to Japan, the most restrictive of all locations then keep up with the annual requirements, so you don't have to worry about quarantines if you do get a position in Japan.
SlcjklI hate this interface. It's so user-unfriendly..I wasn't even done posting! My other question is whether you get more points for a particular university over another, ie an education degree from Columbia vs University of Phoenix. Or is it all the same, and HR just looks at the totality of education rather than prestige?
As for target location, I don't thi...See MoreI have no official knowledge but I have never heard of any kind of additional points or rating based on the reputation of a candidate's college/university. The closest I have heard of to this is a principal favoring a candidate if they went to their alma mater or belonged to the same fraternity/sorority.
As for target location, I don't think it's a matter of getting more points for selecting worldwide, you simply have more potential opportunities due to your being considered/eligible for more schools/potential openings.
You are receiving this notification because DoD records indicate DFAS paid a vendor on your behalf for shipment and/or storage of your household goods (HHG). As you may know, the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017 (TCJA) made these moving expense payments taxable income for civilian relocation travelers.
In September 2020 DFAS will begin processing a group of HHG shipment and storage payments to calculate the tax withholding owed. The HHG payment made on your behalf is included in this group of payments. DFAS is required to remit certain taxes to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) on your behalf for the HHG payment. For payments made to vendors in tax years 2018 and 2019, DFAS is required to pay Medicare and Social Security tax. For payments made to vendors in tax year 2020, DFAS is required to pay Medicare, Social Security and Federal income tax. To recoup the funds paid to the IRS on your behalf, DFAS will establish a debt for the taxes paid.
Here is what you can expect:
- You will receive an advice of payment (AOP) notification in myPay when your HHG shipment and/or storage payment is processed. The AOP will reference the Invoice Number(s) and Bill of Lading associated with the vendor payment(s) being taxed. The AOP is for your information and is not an official debt notification.
- Next, DFAS Accounts Receivable will send you an email regarding your debt. The email will be from: dfas.rome.jaa.mbx.civpcsdebt-inquiry@mail.mil. The email is not an official debt notification. Its purpose is to advise you of the debt amount and provide you an opportunity to pay the debt prior to DFAS initiating debt collection procedures.
- DFAS will mail an official debt notification via the U.S. Postal Service to your address of record in January or February of 2021 if you have not already paid your debt in full.
- Regardless of whether your debt is paid or still owing, in January 2021 you will receive a SmartDoc email providing information about tax reporting on the vendor payment(s) and the process for filing a claim for Relocation Income Tax Allowance.
IcanreadWhen did you move? I was offered a job in 2017 but didn't move until 2018, and I am still waiting for the debt collection on the taxes. It's been over 2 1/2 years that I've been waiting. But of course, I don't really want to bring it to HR's attention.
Li LaoshiChra said the position was closed. Maybe I was too long winded. I have to think you guys at least told the person chosen, the leading candidate, the good news by now, regardless of the official letter from HR....but who knows. Many thanks for your kind words.
I have no complaints about my degree from GCU. Then again I was already a certified/experienced teacher and was not really worried about learning anything additional (although to be fair, there was some good/useful information in most of the classes, at least in my subject area).
And to be totally honest, for recertification/salary advancement purposes, I will definitely choose the easiest/fastest/cheapest option every time.
TravelTeacherMommyThank you haha. I will be choosing the path to least resistance. I have a bachelors, masters, and a doctorate degree. I am taking these classes to gain some skills and check a box.
hahaYou should definitely try anything to stand out. That being said, I'm never sure how closely/whether the narrative gets read or is searchable. I guess if you get shortlisted then possibly a principal could dig deeper.
