Yeah, I know it can be done and is not all that unusual but don't know the details/limitations, having never utilized that option.

That is the basic description for "elementary teacher". They are saying that you would be hired as an elementary teacher but could be asked to teach any grade 1st through 4th. DoDEA ES teacher duties seem pretty typical. They generally teach all academic subjects and do not have to do their own specials (PE, Art, etc.).

If you turn down an offer for any DoDEA school, it could lock you out of further recruitment for the rest of the school year. Stateside DoDEA generally does not reimburse for moves or provide housing/housing allowance.

If you really want the overseas position, I suggest not accepting the stateside interview. If the stateside location happens to offer you a position before the overseas location, you would be stuck. Theses rules (or possibly their interpretation) are actually quite new. Up until maybe two/three years ago, they were still evaluating LQA benefits for non-CONUS hires based on factors other than physical presence in the US for the recruitment policy. You may not have been referred because there were people who had more/better qualifications than you did. Just because you met the minimum qualifications doesn't mean you will be referred. They only pick the best candidates to refer.

Has anyone ever been hired by DoDEA with a past poor credit history or discharged bankruptcy? Do most applicants get denied with these issues?
Also, what does the medical clearance through eqip look at/consider?

I don't believe credit plays a part in renting as you are usually going through the housing office. They know where to find you and that LQA will more than cover your rent so it is not generally an issue in my experience. In Europe and Japan, they never even ran credit that I am aware of.

The Aspen program is awful. I have 15 years of sped experience and usually pick things up quickly. I've never had such a hard time learning a program and the DoDEA sped procedures (they're very different than any of the public schools where I've worked previously).
