Hello_GoodbyeThank you all for your detailed comments and information! I am glad that I asked this question. I can see I have a lot more to research and consider beforehand.
@jgray1278 - I have sent you an email. Thank you for offering to speak with me about this in more depth!
If we are new hires, when will our insurance start? If we resign from our current position our medical coverage is over. Does our new insurance start when we accept the official offer?
Well wishes, best of luck & congratulations to everyone. Has anyone interviewed in South Korea at the high school level and received offers or not selected notices yet? Extra cheers if your interview was at the end of June. Thank you!
Page 5 of 11 is for school psychologists. haha is correct. The newly earned credits not used for your MA will be used for the +. It sounds like MA +15 which is FM salary lane.
If your non-DoDEA experience was 10 years, they would start at step 11. Then, any DoDEA years of experience would be added to those years of experience. If you worked another 10 years in DoDEA, that would be 20 years accepted.
Step 14 is your 14th year working, so that would require 13 years of experience. You stay there 4 years, so your 18th year of experience would be step 15, then you stay there 4 years, so your 21st year of experience would be your third year of the 15th step. Your offer would say, 3rd year on step 15. That would be $91,825. However, that is for this year, so in the spring of 2021, when the analysis is done to look at the average school psychologist pay across those districts, the pay will increase (if pay is higher) and you get paid the lump sum for Aug-June (ish) pay then the remaining balance is added to your remaining paychecks.
EDS is column 17. School Psychology pay with column 17 is on page 13 of 17.
Same scenario, of 10 years outside DoDEA and 10 years in DoDEA schools: Experience from outside DoDEA is limited to 5 years and the first year of experience is step 0, so the highest starting year is step 5 for outside DoDEA experience. Then, add 10 years DoDEA experience puts you on Step 15.$106,131 per 190-day school-year.
If you accept a position as an ISS, your daily rate will be lower as an ISS than it was as a school psychologist. In the USA it is a GS position and in foreign countries a TP position O (not F) scale. You work more days, so the pay is slightly higher overall, but your daily rate is lower.
I was hired on as a local hire last year and will be moving by the end of this school year. My EAS application is still locked and I have a new cert that I need to add and get updated. Does anyone know who I would contact to update that? Due to lockdown- my office staff person isn't here and I just want to start applying for the 2021 school year as soon as I know where I am heading next.
DODEA says I need a methods class for elementary math to be certified in elementary education. Where online can I take this class? This would certify me in over 10 areas for DODEA. Thanks for any help.
ms896I'm not going to Japan, so I don't know about that part. But, we've had success contacting the bank where our car is financed and they gave us a letter saying it was ok to take the car to Europe. So, some lenders will allow it.
I ❤ spedI think YOU can ship it but it will be expensive. No the government will not ship it for you. I don't know of anyone who has shipped their car to Japan.
kelly@haha thank you so much for this information! It is very helpful! We will see how the interview goes. It is a 0400 my time, so hopefully I will be awake enough to make sense of my questions and answers.
Being overseas there are some challenges, They don't seem huge until you REALLY want a burger and BK runs out of burgers one week, the broilers are broken for two more weeks, and then the ice cream machine breaks!
The base has been working to fix the movie theater since 2011. Still not happening.
Not sure about the MS/HS but the elementary staff is very clicky. Very.
Positives: safe, return travel to the states every year, COLA, small class sizes for your high school student, ability to play/participate in sports, you are in Japan
What do you do for cell phone service? Do you keep your US phone connected until you get there then get another phone/plan there? Okinawa specific info would be great!
