shecooksMs. Brown, I will be teaching culinary arts!
In case anyone is interested, here is my current timeline: notification of filed request for PCS on 6/11. I was told it will be 2 to 3 weeks before we receive orders, so we should have them by July 2. My report date is 8/3 to allow for a two-week quarantine.
Thank you to does of you who always answer and give feedback. Every morning I check the post. Your feedback is read with great care and much appreciated (haha, I can read, HelpOthers, etc...) Thank You

bemIsItFriday? I was not on a random PCS page. It was a PCS symposium hosted by the garrison on their official Facebook page. They had representatives from various base organizations to answer our questions so I wouldn't necessarily say it was worthless.
HelpOthers@bem, That is correct for TDY, so likely true for RAT. Any time you don't go with the recommended lodging, the maximum approved amount for reimbursement purposes is the approved amount for that approved lodging. So, you could do it instead of the approved lodging, but would recommend the price be the same or lower per night.
Today, I just received email that I was put on a referral list. I understand it's only a referral, but I am happy to see some type of movement. So my question is should I email the school principal or wait to see if I get selected for an interview. Thank you in advance!
Shoul...See MoreQuestion, I was informed that I was put on a referral list for the school that I applied for, I think the list was released yesterday. I was called for an interview and already had it today but I still haven't gotten an email that I was even put on the referral list. I have been subbing at the school and previously worked as a aide.
Should I be concerned? What if I get the job offer but never received my email...
Wishful thinking....Thanks, I got the job, it was a very quick process for me. Tentative offer June 12th Firm Offer June 16th. I am a local hire who has been a substitute teacher at the school.
Heducatormama, thanks for responding. That's interesting that it would've taken so long to get the offer. Do you know why it took so long? Also, do you remember how long it took between the time you were referred to the hiring manager and the time you were offered an interview? Thanks!
educatormamaThey didn't say why it took so long to offer me the position, my guess is that they offered it to someone else first and for some reason it didn't work out. I received a referral at the end of Feb, interviewed in April, offered position in August.
Hey everyone, what's everyone's thought on the 25,000 being withdrawn from Germany. I also read where Trump is considering pulling out thousands of troops from Japan, and Korea. How is this gonna affect staffing levels and school closures. Thanks in advance.
Sunnyluring@isitfriday, the numbers I stated also included dependents and the reduction in civilian positions due to the reduction in force for the the three nations. The information is all over the place I saw it on DW news and then researched it on American news sites also.
I see several recruitment videos and postings on USA JOBS, and I was just curious about the location. I'm a water person, so I love being outdoors near large bodies of water, but it seems very isolated.
ecd5I don't know much about GITMO, but typically you'll meet like-minded people while doing what you enjoy most. So if you enjoy the outdoor activities offered there, I'd imagine you'd meet someone who also enjoys that.
Are there any programs that match new teachers with a buddy of some sort to assist in navigating the transition overseas? If so, is it done automatically or does it need to be requested?
educatormamaIt totally depends on the school/district you go to. My overseas school did not provide me a sponsor and I was pretty much on my own with my 2 young children to figure everything out. They are trying to implement mentors for next year, I really hope they do because it was a very tough with no support.
It is a supervisor's job to on board new employees.
Providing mentors is a novel, and a seemingly acceptable way, for administrators to avoid their responsibilities. It is a way for them to slide their work onto other people.
I like to think of myself as a very helpful coworker, as evidenced by all the questions that I answer on this board. (I answer questions that people are clearly unable to get HR to answer in a clear, or timely fashion.) And I go much further to help all my actual living breathing new coworkers.
But I don't for a moment try to kid myself, into thinking that DoDEA has a genuine plan for in-processing new teachers.
These mentoring programs are just a way for administrators to slide out of hand holding new arrivals. They are often presented as being generated spontaneously in house from the bottom up. But they are simply a really convenient way for administrators to solve a problem with minimal effort (get someone else to do the work).
