Who would I contact to review grad classes to qualify for the required 20 hours for the AP position? I have a C&I masters and hoping it will be enough for me to apply .
Hi all just wondering how many schools Dodea are planning on closing this coming year. Also what is the turnover like with media specialists, I'm just wondering what the chances of openings coming open this year. Thanks a bunch in advance.
IsItFriday? There's just one school closing this year. It's last day is scheduled for June 09. It's not being combined, or constructed, or moved, or anything else. It will simply shut. The official announcement was months ago.
And in my opinion it's easier to get hired as a older teacher, than as a younger teacher. The way that the referral list is created favors older teachers. Older teachers generally have more years of experience, more certs, and more advanced degrees. These are the main criteria for getting a high placement on the referral list.
Some school districts Stateside are notorious for favoring young, inexperienced teachers, who then start on the lowest step on the salary scale.
I updated my application this week even though I haven't gotten the usual email yet. When the email comes, am I going to need to do it again or since I just did it I'm good?
hahaTough to say for certain. Generally, they reset the green checks/finalized status for everyone's EAS before/when they send out the email. So, it will all depend on the timing of that process. When in doubt, go back and check after the email comes out.
How much are the supervisor evaluations weighted against your interview, qualifications, and background? Is it possible or likely to still have good chances of getting hired even if they don't have great/good evaluations from their supervisors?
So, hiring principals will generally have their pick of candidates and if several candidates are relatively equal, then they could choose the one with the best recommendations. Or, they could trust their own gut more and pick who THEY think is the best/best fit.
Is is a deal breaker? No. Could it be a limiting factor. Sure, it could be.
TeachinStateside teacher here...I was not required to sign a mobility agreement because they did not pay to move me. However, an ISS I spoke with was surprised that they didn't move me since they paid to move her.
Of course, if you are not coming in with federal experience to increase the steps past the normal entry step (5) then it wouldn't be quite as rosy (but still probably doable/worth it, depending on where you are coming from).
The alternative certificati...See MoreI am currently a substitute teacher with DODEA working at an OCONUS school. I have a BA but not in education. I am considering an alternative certification program to get certified to teach. Does anyone know if DODEA accepts alternative teaching certificates? Or what how they are viewed when it comes to hiring?
The alternative certification program is clearly the quickest way to get certified but I'm not sure if it's looked down upon.
I have also looked into a Masters of Education program, but since I do not have an education degree, I would have to take several courses (literature, government..) just to be eligible to start the Masters program.
Even having a state certification in a given subject area will not excuse you from the college credit requirements (although it can halve the numbers of normally required credits in many cases (15 vs. 30, 12 vs. 24).
If you have a BA in any subject, you will generally not need another degree, but you would need to meet the credit requirements and either a student teaching experience or have one year of full time teaching experience.
What area would you most want to teach? Take a look at the specific requirements for that subject area and then figure out what you would need to meet all of the requirements (credit hours, do you have any towards the requirements now, would the alt. cert. program count towards the student teaching requirement, would it lead to state certification which could then lower the numbers of credits required, etc.).
