I am certified in 8 areas, which are in ESOL, ESE, Elementary, and Middle School subject areas. Plus, I have a degree in education that includes both elementary and ESE courses. However, I only have three years of teaching experience. What are my chances of getting hired?
haha3 years is pretty much the minimum that DoDEA will be looking for. You have a nice grouping of certs (if DoDEA agrees with you) which could make up for being on the lesser end of experience, to a certain extent.
Everyone faces long odds of getting hired with DoDEA and yours don't really sound any better or worse than anyone else's.
I am currently in college for a bachelors degree in Special Education. Can anyone shed some light on the hiring process DODs? My dad was a service member and I really want to be a part of this! Thank you!!
MissamyHaha, I know this is an old post. But, I would love to hear more about your experiences as a DODEA Special Ed teacher. What has your average case load been and what type of special ed are you teaching?
At my current school my caseload has ranged from 10-12 to close to 30, all LIMM that come to me for Learning Strategies and/or individualized ELA/Math. I also do some push-in and have several TA's. CSC/SPED Dept. Chair is an Extra Duty Contract position that pays a good chunk of extra money.
Mod to Severe programs tend to be fairly small, especially at the middle and secondary level (5 +/-). In general, those students will have less severe disabilities and behaviors than many/most US programs due to the screening that takes place as part of the PCS process (and most the students are children of civilians rather than active duty due to different levels of screening).
I taught SPED in two different states (and several different schools) back in the US and by comparison and I generally have found the parents in DoDEA to be very supportive and appreciative and/or hands off/trusting us to do what we think is the right thing (with a few interesting exceptions),
There are always meetings and paperwork that go with SPED but I haven't found it too different than the states, with some things a little better, some a little worse. In general, it's a great gig, but obviously things will vary quite a bit by school, location, type of admin, year to year, etc.
Your a...See MoreI see posts about email updates, but I never got one. However, I just created an application in Jan for the next school year. After submitting/finalizing, I went back in and changed my target date to 20/21 instead of 21/22.
I emailed HR last week to check on whether or not my app was finalized and I received this response:
Your application does read as active in the system, and the application is
showing as finalized as well. In regards to the next school year, you will not
need to make a new application. The system is set to automatically move the
consideration from 2019/2020 school year to the 2020/2021 school year
consideration within this next month or so for all applicants that are in the
system. You should receive an email from the EAS system indicating when this
change will occur.
THEN, smh... I went back in yesterday and resubmitted every option that didn't have an error...but now the system is down again. I don't know what I did lol I hope I didn't mess it all up smh
Also a question about references.....
How can you tell if they've complete the online form? Will your application read as complete even if they didn't submit them? I wonder how many people don't get referred because their application isn't truly complete because of missing references.
MissamyI can't even log in either. Yesterday I was able to get in and update all sections except the section titled, "Additional Experiences." That section had an error. This is nerve wracking!

The update your profile email came to me today. The website is super glitchy. Anyone else have that? I'm guessing lots of people are using it at once, maybe? Good luck everyone!
Just MeI was finally able to complete every step in updating my application! It is done and I am ready! Fingers crossed for this year!! Hoping and Praying!
dodhopefulbeyondhopeful: thanks! I'll finish mine tonight. I'm also hoping and praying for this year. This is 8 years for me and I only have 1-2 years left before I'm going all in on my state's retirement and committing to where I'm at.
"Requires a minimum of 12 SH in library/information science distributed over at least four of the following areas: library administration; cataloging and classification; reference; children's or adolescent literature; collection development; selection of print/non-print materials; current issues and trends in information science; and library automation. Also, requires a minimum of 12 SH in technology distributed over at least four of the following areas: computer applications; multimedia/audiovisual production; internet technology; on-line information/services; desktop publishing; network management; distance learning systems; and library automation."
Who would I contact to review grad classes to qualify for the required 20 hours for the AP position? I have a C&I masters and hoping it will be enough for me to apply .
Hi all just wondering how many schools Dodea are planning on closing this coming year. Also what is the turnover like with media specialists, I'm just wondering what the chances of openings coming open this year. Thanks a bunch in advance.
IsItFriday? There's just one school closing this year. It's last day is scheduled for June 09. It's not being combined, or constructed, or moved, or anything else. It will simply shut. The official announcement was months ago.
And in my opinion it's easier to get hired as a older teacher, than as a younger teacher. The way that the referral list is created favors older teachers. Older teachers generally have more years of experience, more certs, and more advanced degrees. These are the main criteria for getting a high placement on the referral list.
Some school districts Stateside are notorious for favoring young, inexperienced teachers, who then start on the lowest step on the salary scale.
