I have always been a California resident and moved back to California after I retired from active duty. While on active duty, if I was stationed outside of California I didn't pay any state taxes. I only paid Calfornia taxes when I was actually stationed in California. Does the same hold for DoDEA employees? Thank you!
If you accept a position stateside, are you paid more vs. overseas as with overseas you receive housing? Is that correct? Also with stateside do they pay for the move like they would for overseas? Any info would be helpful.
LindseyI do hope that is true @haha I have actually decided to keep most of my belongings in non temporary storage and get new things out there. Partly because of the taxes and also because my stuff always seems to break in big moves.
Snow LaneMy understanding is that the process has changed and applications for admin positions are done through USA Jobs as the come open. There isn't a "call" any more.
When completing the VP application, is it okay if some of my responses are In don't have any experience in this area'? I am worried that it will prevent me from being referred. I am strong in other areas, but I have no experience in about 5 out of 25 areas.
I know this has been asked before, I really wish they had a search function on this board. How do the DoDEA steps work? I have 10 years of teaching experience in public schools. I have my Master's +15. Thanks in advance.
IcanreadI believe you would start at step 10 or 11 (I can't remember which) for your time in public schools... but then you would also get your credit for how many years you have taught stateside for Dodea.
hahaThat's my understanding as well. You would get 10 years of public school experience, so Step 11, and then added credit for your DoDEA Americas experience (keeping in mind that we have "longevity steps" starting at Step 14, meaning that you stay on that Step for 4 years before moving up).
Hello all, I had an interview earlier this week and then today, I was notified that I have been referred. Is that a good thing? Doesn't referred mean I just get an interview?
hahaYes, that's what I was trying to say. It does seem backwards that you get a referral, AFTER you have already interviewed for the position. It does seem odd, even for DoDEA. I would think it's just a glitch, but nothing would really surprise me, I guess.
CookieIt's always open, no date. However there is a time of year where if you applied already, they ask you to update your application. Hiring is year round, although busier during the summer.
it wanted a statement of why I didn't have a state teaching certificate. Everything says it is open according to EAS but it won't let me submit the update.Too weird- best of luck its worth doing it!
LindseyI would say that the position is for this year. I was just referred in November and going through the process now. For reference I was interviewed on 12/4, offered tentatively 12/17, and received my firm offer 1/17. I am still waiting for orders though. My tentative start date is 3/2. Good luck!
CookieIf you get to the interview stage, you have very high chances with VP. Principals have to provide written justification to HR for not selecting you, many choose not to go through this process. You may want to research Naples, it's not for everyone.
When looking to get further certifications, where do most of you go online to take individual courses to contribute toward your continuing education? Based on a previous recommendation here, I looked at Western Governor's University, but they do not allow you to take single courses. Any ideas would be much appreciated. Thanks!
BubbleHead711I registered, completed the course, and got a transcript in 4 weeks for $345 form the University of LaVerne .http://www.pdcourses.net/courses-pdc.php I completed two graduate level science courses with them to get my general science and physics certs.
