Good afternoon! I received my Tentative Job Offer to teach in Japan the day after Thanksgiving. I have filled out all of my paperwork they sent but have not received the clearance form yet. About how long after the tentative offer do you typically get the official offer? I saw someone had mentioned the pay scale and I was a bit saddened to see that with a bachelor's, two masters, and 13 years of teaching experience I would be starting at Step 1....is that normal? They also made me aware that civilians live off base...is there ever a time when you get to live on base as a civilian? I am single so no dependents.

If anyone has any info on Yokosuka I would appreciate it!

haha Hi. Congrats! Japan is amazing and a great place for your first posting (although great anytime come to think of it) especially if you are near Tokyo. spedteacher82 Thank you so much for your help. I was never sent any employment verification forms. I would be working out of the Naval Hospital as an early childhood special education teacher, maybe that is a different pay scale than DODEA specifically?

haha Ah. Yes, if you are not being employed by DoDDS then it would be different. It sounds more like an EDIS gig or something through a contractor (Stirling etc). uh89 Ask them if you can live in the Bachelor Officers Quarters (BOQ). They are small fully furnished apartments that are quite nice. sunny I saw your post just now. Did you receive info on the clearance process by now? If not I can give some info on how this is done. What about official passport? Have you got the paperwork/instructions ?
