I have generally heard many positive things about Korea although it can vary by location. Seoul is apparently a great city but the military is shifting more and more resources and personnel to Camp Humphreys which is nearby to Seoul but not so close that you could commute or head into the city for dinner on a week night (or so I hear).

I have heard people say that dust and sand (and other things) have led to health problems but I have no data to back that up. Many people seem to enjoy their time there but it is also one of the places with the highest turnover as many people seem to transfer out as soon as they can.

All in all I wouldn't hesitate to take a first position there if offered.

If you teach secondary, have only one cert, or have a teaching spouse, you could be waiting until you have 10 years in to get a transfer within the pacific and 15-20 year...See More

haha That hasn't been my experience (most of the people I know personally who got transfers were secondary) but it's all speculation/opinion/anecdotal really since we don't get details on the completed transfers. As for a teaching couple getting a transfer together to your desired location I would rather count on winning the lottery. If you are really d...See More

happyteacher I find it funny that transfers are about seniority. Where is the motivation to work hard? In most districts in my state, you have to interview for transfers. Our transfer rounds happen before they do new hires, but principals interview candidates and make the decision. Seems to me, you could "weed out" some of the less desirable teachers by intervi...See More
