When officially hired, you have a report date on your newly cut orders and will always go by what your orders say. When I started with DDESS, there was no base housing available, you are on you own for housing, although my school secretary helped me find something.

Thank you for answering that Expat, but HR asked me when I could start. I thought they would give me the start date like you said...What would be an appropriate amount of time to request given that I am moving from another state and my principal at least wants me to put in a two week notice?

I came in at the beginning of a school year and had a report date on my orders. Sounds like yours is different with the school year well under way? I would take whatever time you need to leave your job with proper notice, move and find/set-up your house etc. You could also call your new principal and ask for guidance on this issue.
