Anyone have helpful hints for bringing over your dogs? I have a vet appointment tomorrow to get a rabies shots. I read somewhere that we need to get additional shots 31 days later. Then 10 days before we leave we need a health certificate.

Still, it's possible they may be quarantined up to 6 months?

I want to make sure I am doing everything so they have little or no quarantine time. Thank you all again. This chatboard has made the process so much easier. Thank you all!

HelpOthers With our first dog, his chip was placed by a rescue and did not have as many numbers as the international chip. Now he has both chips. The original chip number is on all the paperwork, because he still has it and the new (international chip- Home Again is one) is on the 2nd rabies and FAVN reports. Our vet felt this was sufficient. Spound28 My dog is chipped and up to date on all rabies and tests. I hope to have an offer and would like to start the process now to cut down on the 180 days I would have left. How should I start this process? Is it a special rabies shot?

SandArt Your dog needs a rabies antibody test, also called FAVN. Not sure what that means. The 180 days starts on the day they start that test. We got a new rabies shot because the lady one was 2-3 years ago. For us: rabies shot 1 on 4/20; rabies shot 2 & antibodies test May 22nd. Our 180 days starts then. I'd check to see if your chip is international...See More

HelpOthers To be safe, we had the new chip added to our dog when they did the 2nd rabies and the FAVN. He has both chips, but at least the new chip and old chip numbers are on the paperwork, so hopefully that will negate any concerns. Petsmart uses HomeAgain which is the correct chip. There are great websites and FB pages regarding preparing your dog for trav...See More
