Hypothetically, if one was to accept a position after a tentative offer and then a few weeks later, something came up that caused a need to then turn around and decline the offer (i.e. spouse offered position elsewhere, unexpected health or family issue, etc), then what would happen? I am assuming that one would be blacklisted from getting a job offer again, at least for that year if not for future years, but would there be any other repercussions? This happens all the time in school districts in the area I live (in fact, we had multiple people leave 1-2 weeks after school started in my district unexpectedly), but I was curious about how that worked for DODEA. Does anyone know if this happens very often?
Euxpat Your application will be taken off for jobs for that school year, but I've never heard of long lasting repercussions. If you refuse an interview though it does not hurt you.

They will call you first. Give you time to sign your contract second. Sure, it's not the best thing to leave your admin waiting, but my district has us sign our contracts ...See More

HelpOthers Agreed. If you turn down an offer, you application will be locked until the following school-year. However, one way to avoid the contract issue is to have teaching certificates in at least one other state. If your current state holds your certificate, you still have one from another state to use for DoDEA. Some districts will let you out of the con...See More
