I've heard horror stories from DoDEA teachers and other federal employees, who went several pay periods before getting their first check. Assuming our first pay date is Sept 14th ish, and we've already accepted offers - should we anticipate any problems? Or are the people who go a while without getting their first paycheck hired last minute? Has this been a problem for people?
Teach When I taught in Okinawa, I was hired the very first teacher workday. It took about a month before I got paid the first time, so I believe it was the 2nd pay period when I actually got paid. SandArt I have been reading that we should go to our new country with at least $10,000 cash. We have more than that in our savings are are trying to accumulate more. Plus, we have credit cards with zero balances which we can use in an emergency.

haha It hasn't been a problem for me or any of the new hires that I know/heave heard of. I am sure it can happen occasionally to someone out of thousands of gov't employees but wouldn't really stress about it.

Teach A coworker in Okinawa that had pay problems had so much help from her housing agency, our school, the union, etc. She and her family did not go without. So, if you end up being one out of thousands that have an issue, you will have support!
