I've heard that one of the interview questions is about whole language. What is the difference between whole language and phonics?
TeacherMama K in Daegu Whole language is basically the opposite of phonics. It is teaching reading through memorizing sight words, context and meaning.

Pretty much no one teaches that way any more. We also don't do only phonics. We blend the two.

Teach It seems strange that anyone interviewing teachers now would talk about whole language. Most DODEA schools I have been in use a balanced literacy approach, which is what TeacherMama described. SandArt I did not get that question, but my interview was for math. I did teach kinder 13 years ago and TeacherMama & Teach give excellent descriptions. If you're not K-3, you probably won't even get that question.
