I just realized our daughter's passport expired in April. Should I take it and rush for a new one or do we have time for regular processing if we tell them we renewed. Can't believe I missed that this Spring.

Each passport location can give you an estimate. Ours took only 2 weeks although I think they say estimate 6weeks. You will travel on your official passport so the travel one isn't necessary until you take your first vacation.

Personally, I would go ahead and renew it and expedite it to make sure you get it back in three weeks. However, Scholar is correct. You will use the official passport to travel to your new country.
