We are headed to Seoul. We haven't moved from our house in a while and most of our "stuff" is really old. So our first instinct was to just get rid of it. What should be bought in the states and shipped vs. purchased when we arrive? For example, we need a new mattress, so should we go to the store here and get a new one to ship?
Teach I am not sure about Korea, but I know that when we lived in Okinawa, there was a decent selection of "American" furniture nearby. I have asked a friend who is at my new school if I can find a good mattress, sofa, dining set, etc. when we get to Yokosuka, and she said yes. onthemove You can buy furniture at the BX. Some of the bases have entire furniture stores! We bought a leather(ish) sofa set in Korea at the BX. The BX is like a Walmart- so you can get most household things there. Again, there are plenty of places to get other furniture off base as well.

haha Try and inquire about the stores on your specific base. In Germany we bought new mattresses when we arrived (they had a good range of Sealy etc). They have the same selection here in Japan. Furniture is also available. We bought a nice leather set in Germany but many of the other offerings were not really to our liking (Ashley, etc).

i❤️slps There was a furniture store at Yongsan in Seoul when I was there in 2012-14. If it's not there anymore, the PX will sell furniture. My off-post housing was pretty large the last time I was there, but I only brought one bedroom of furniture with me. If you get your housing before your HHGs get there, you can borrow furniture from the housing office ...See More
