Is there a difference between the passports that federal employees and their dependants acquire when moving overseas and a travel passport that a citizen acquires through the state department?
Teach Yes. Official passports are red/maroon vs. blue for the tourist passport.

haha Yes. DoDEA employees and dependents get official passports (no fee, different color, only supposed to be used while traveling on orders, etc.).

Scholar Dependents get blue official ones. Everyone still needs a tourist passport so you can travel after for vacations. The official is only for use when on orders

HelpOthers Someone on a different post pointed out that our Dependents receive a blue official passport that looks on the outside exactly like the tourist one. However, on page 15 or so, there is a stamp stating that they are there for official reasons. Make sure they use the correct passport. haha Actually, everyone in the family should get the official maroon one, not a blue one.
