I have a job offer back in the states. I am home on summer leave. My question is can I resign from my teaching position? Will they still send my household items back. I believe they still owe me a move home?
Zenetanar I haven't started for DoDEA yet but I was reading through all the paperwork last night and it stated that if you accept the RAT and then leave you are breaking your contract and will have to pay them back.

haha Yes, they do owe you a move back to the states but as posted it depends on where you are in the RAT cycle. They will do it regardless but will charge you for it if you are still working off of a RAT travel or have not completed your first two years.

happyteacher Does this mean people can only resign on even years if they want HHG shipped back? So if we wanted to go back to the states in 5 years, we'd really have to go in either 4 or 6?

haha Something like that. Either that, or plan ahead if you can and do not take RAT travel (either delay it a year or travel and pay for it yourself).

HelpOthers They will ship your goods back AFTER you fulfill your contract. Ordinarily this is 2 years. Therefore, if you have not completed two full years since you were hired or since you took Renewal Agreement Travel (RAT), you would be responsible either for paying for the RAT or the cost of shipping your goods back home.
