I will be a new DoDEA teacher this year. I received my tentative offer two weeks and two days before my date to report back to work. I have been frank with my principal, but I've been concerned about putting in the actual resignation paperwork since I don't have the firm contract. I already will have to resign "with prejudice" meaning I can't be rehired for three years (which is fine, as I see this as a long term commitment) but if I wait any longer I could be barred permanently. I don't intend to return, but I still don't want that on my record. However, it's daunting to put in resignation papers without 100% confirmation the new position (I know that sounds ridiculous, since I have never had any financial debt or done anything illegal other than one speeding ticket...) and also having no idea how long the background check will take. My paperwork says YOU ARE REQUIRED TO BE AT YOUR POST BY AUGUST 21 but then it says TRAVEL TBD. Can someone put me at ease? Should I just resign?

Does it look like you will have orders in time for you to report by August 21? Is there someone you trust who can handle the packing up of your household goods if you need to leave bef...See More

Zenetanar I actually live 7 miles from the headquarters so I just showed up today (they were certainly surprised) but it was so wonderful to meet my HR contact and ask her questions face to face - I feel a million times better. She advised me not to resign until I have the orders. My principal is completely aware of what is going on and has someone ready to ...See More
