My family & I recently arrived to DOODS Europe & are on 21 pay schedule for 1st year. Any advice on making it through summer months without pay? We are allowed RAT travel next summer, which we want to take. However, until our pay stabilizes, it seems overwhelming. I also took advanced pay to cover certain expenses.

haha The first year can be a little rough, especially if you are paying back the pay advance. There isn't that much you can do to offset those missing checks on top of having a $500+ a paycheck deduction.

Couple of Questions I feel your pain, LOL. Last year was my husband's first year, so this past summer was tough. First, I would say if you didn't take the full amount of advanced pay you could have, you might consider that a source to get you through the summer months. Ida It is when you sponsor a club, sport, etc for which you get paid. Just guessing, but I think the letters stand for Extra Duty Contract, but I actually have no idea even though I have 4 of them.

haha Extra Duty Compensation but basically the same thing. Depending on the size of the school and the principal, most teachers seem to have at least one and many have multiple EDC's. The big ones are coaching varsity sports which demand a pretty big chunk of your time for 3 months and pay $4K+. Other EDC's run the length of the year and can range from ...See More
