Hi, I am currently in Germany and will hopefully be doing student teaching at one of our local schools. My question is, just in your opinion, how likely would I be as a local hire? I would only have my bachelors in special education/elementary ed and no k-12 experience, just preschool. Is it worth it to be a local hire or is LQA a necessity? I would like to start on my Master's as soon as I am done with my B.A. and it would qualify for a reading endorsement and ESL. I am just not sure if I should go back to the states or stay in Germany..
Laura I was hired as a local hire when my husband was stationed in Japan. If I would've stayed there as a local hire there was NO WAY I could have afforded to live there without LQA. haha It's a good question. There are a lot of details that might sway you one way or the other depending on your personal situation. To start, it's tough to say what your odds would be of getting hired with certification but no experience. The good and bad news is that principals have a lot of discretion in hiring for local hires. Bloo Thank you for the responses! @haha, I work at the child development center here so I am under SOFA status. As you can imagine, it isn't a lot of money at all and we currently live on that so even without LQA, a teachers pay is significantly more than I make now. My husband also works however and he is German, working on the economy. We have 2 kids....See More

haha That makes more sense to me now. The idea of LQA for local hired is generally covered by the 10 mile rule:
