I am not proud of it but I had to declare Ch. 13 2 months ago. I accumulated too much credit card debt. It started 6 years ago when I was unemployed and then I kinda always been playing catch up. Living month-to-month while trying to get rid of my debt. I wouldn't have any money left over after I paid my bills which meant that I occasionally had to use my credit much caused my debt to get bigger, which lead to a bigger monthly payment. It was a vicious cycle that I was trapped in. Bankruptcy or winning the lotto was my only way out.

I just got a TO and I am freaking out, I am so worried that this mistake will prevent me from passing the background check. The irony is that I will be in a better place financially if I get the job and my creditors will receive a bigger monthly payment.

I hope I dont get DQ'ed for this.....

Do DoDEA teacher redo the background check every 5 years?
IAmBatman It really depends on what job you are going to be doing. Where are you heading and what will you be doing?

IAmBatman Purpose of them doing the background check is to see if you have ever defaulted on a federal loan, such as a federal student loan. If you have defaulted you are, in theory, ineligible for federal service.

haha Like I posted earlier, I know teachers with DoDEA who have had major credit issues and still made it past the background check. Your troubles are more recent so that might be a little more problematic but there is no hard and fast rule about that (that I know of).
