Hello! I have just started to complete the application to work for the Dodea. Although I'm early on in the process, I have so many questions to help me figure out if this is something I'm even interested in! Any help around any of these questions would be great! 1. What are some of the high needs areas currently? Math by any chance?? 2. What people are most attracted to these positions? I'm young, not married and looking for adventure. I fear that everyone who does this are married with families and settled.I'd hate to move to suburbia type situation in a foreign city. 3. It sounds like most teachers end up living off base. Is it easy enough finding living arrangements in foreign places? Do you get an additional allowance for living quarters on top of your salary or do you have to make your salary stretch? 4. Is planning done around the common core state standards? What curriculums are used? Or does it depend on what school you end up at? Thanks so much in advance to anyone who can hel...See More

Scholar In math we use eureka math (you can google dodea eureka math and should find it). The parcs test is the new wave of standardized testing. I would get hs math cert as well. You can't teach advanced 8th grade math with only a math certification. Our school is looking for a handful of teacher next year, mainly math and science combinations

2. All sorts of people are interested in DoDEA. Many have military connected background...See More

MiddleSchoolMath Thank you so much to everyone! All of this has been incredibly helpful! I'm only endorsed in math, however I have completed classes at University of Chicago that certifies me to teach Algebra I at the 8th grade level for high school credit. (Not sure if Dodea schools offer their students that option). I guess I shall just wait and see what happens!...See More

DodeaHopeful Good luck! DODEA doesn't recognize algebra 1 as it's own credit. There is MS math and HS math, that's it.

haha 8th graders can take Algebra I for high school credit under certain circumstances. I'm not sure whether the teacher has to have the Secondary math certification or not. As DodeaHopeful said, there is no separate Algebra certification offered for teachers.
