SpedTeacher74 In addition, most military communities have a "lemon lot" where outgoing personnel will sell their cars (usually for a good price), so you can buy something to get around in once you get there without breaking the bank.

haha Possibly in many places in Europe, especially in a larger city that would be true. Are you talking about specific DoDEA locations though? Most bases are not located in or even near larger cities.

Buzz When I lived in Germany, I had a car, but I rarely used it. I got around pretty well with my bicyle and trains. I was able to ride my bike to the train station, take the bike on the train, and so on. I had a Eurail pass that allowed me to go just about anywhere using the train system. Teach You could get away with not having a car in many parts of Japan. I am at Yokosuka and many people opt to not have a car. Cars here are $1000-3000.

HelpOthers In Japan, cars are very INexpensive as Teach mentioned. Also, depending on how close you live to work, you can ride a bike or walk, take the base shuttle, take a train and walk, etc. Insurance for driving is also cheap in Japan.
