I was finally told last week (after interviewing on Feb. 23) that I have been selected for a SPED position but that until the hiring hold for the Southeast District-Americas is lifted, nothing is official and HR can not proceed with my application. The hold was expected to be lifted at the end of April but it's still in effect. The person in HR mentioned that she had several hiring requests from principals but can't proceed with any of them yet. Is there a chance that a hold won't be lifted at all and those vacancies go unfilled? I've been assuming that it's just a waiting game but then it occurred to me that the hold may never be lifted.
HelpOthers Is your application frozen in the meanwhile, or can you still be considered for other positions?

HelpOthers It seems the area is planning to move current teachers to other positions in an effort to avoid laying anyone off. Maybe they did not realize in time to send RIF notices that would have needed to go out already. Hopefully, once they know everyone has a position next year, they will be able to hire those of you waiting.

haha If they are calling it a "hold" then by definition it should be temporary. It sounds like something Mary has suggested since we are not hearing about it anywhere else. Hang in there.

LolaTeach I work in the Southeast and we were recently joined by three new hires. I'm not too sure that there is a freeze, otherwise no-one would be hired. One of the positions was only advertised about a month ago.

Gina Thanks, everyone! @Mary, my application status is still active. @LolaTeach, I'm just going by what HR said...that she can't proceed with several applications until she's been told the hold is lifted.
