If I am correct, just from reading other posts, the largest single expense is paying the deposit on your apartment/house which can run upwards of $5000 and is not reimbursed because you get it back when you move out. Does this sound correct?

Donna that Is also what I have been noticing as I plan for this move. The next largest would probably be a car (if needed) and then a month of expenses.

We've had places in Europe and Japan and the deposit has not been over $2000 either time. I suppose this could vary a bit but $5000 seems high for just the deposit. Other required fees are generally reimbursed.

And usually you don't pay that until after you have received your advanced pay. Therefore, the only money you need before pay is the at least one month's TQSA expenses.

While it depends on the cost of living at your location (mine's high), I agree with the $10,000. I wasn't prepared for how expensive it is!
