Does anyone have any idea how much veteran's preference and/or international teaching experience can play in the hiring process? As a long time lurker here, I know that elementary certified teachers are a dime a dozen but I feel my personality is best suited for the 9-11 year old crowd (though my current principal thinks I could be successful with middle school too) and have been teaching grades 4-5 internationally for the last 8 years. I've lived in Europe and Asia so destination isn't really a concern of mine, but was looking for a sliver of hope that there is a possibility of being only an elementary teacher getting hired on.

haha Veteran's preference is helpful. Opinions vary as to just how significant of an advantage it is (I have heard of a fair amount of vets who interviewed and then a non-vet ended up getting the job but have no idea of the details or what other factors may have been involved).
