I follow the thread on here often and get lots of good information! I know this has probably been discussed before, but I couldn't find it in the recent discussions.

So I received an email today regarding an interview for a social studies/science position in Ft Knox, which is not ideal for the long term goals for my husband and I (we are wanting overseas). I had not realized that I had the stateside locations checked off on.

A couple of questions:

1. If I decline an interview, does that not look good for me in the future or would other schools even know?

2. Although not ideal, if it helped me transition into an overseas position, I would be more excited to interview. Is it going to be beneficial or conversely more negative if I were to interview (and potentially take the job)?

I just accepted position in Colorado, which we are very excited about, but am willing to make the change if it will help me out in the long run. Thanks in advance...See More

LOTRfan Thanks for the input! Follow question:

If I hypothetically took the job, how long would I have to teach at that location prior to having the ability to apply to positions overseas? 1, 2 Years? Sorry! I am just trying to process and weigh the info!

haha Good question. If it was an overseas position it would generally be two years. Since it's a stateside position the usual travel agreement restrictions wouldn't apply so I would think one year? Maybe someone with first hand state side experience can say with more certainty.

IsItFriday? Zero.

You would be a Ddess employee, not a Dodds emplioyee. The two applications are different, although for convenience HQ treats them as if they are the same. As a Ddess employee you are eligible to immediatlely apply for a Dodds position, and vice versa.

Unfortunately, I suspect that if you get hired by Ddess, that HQ will mis-...See More

HelpOthers My understanding is that turning down the interview will not hurt you. I suggest updating your application to reflect no stateside locations if this is what you want. If you accept the position, your EAS will be locked until the following school-year. They do not pay for your relocation to the new location. In Feb-March time-frame when others on he...See More

HelpOthers If you are being hired from within DoDEA, Vet preference no longer helps you, so if you do have vet preference, save it for the job you do want.

If there is any downsizing stateside, DoDEA will try to keep you and may offer you a position in another location (stateside first if available, then overseas if available).
