Can anyone tell me anything about MCAS Iwakuni, Japan, or Matthew C. Perry school? Is it a nice place for a family with kids? General pros and cons compared to other places?

HelpOthers Japan itself is a wonderful country to raise children. In Japan, young children walk alone to and from school- taking the train, etc. It feels so much safer than other countries. haha I would second everything Mary has said. Iwakuni is a nice base with a lot of new schools, construction/projects going on (visited for sports trips). I've not heard anything bad about the base or schools there. There seems to be a lot to do in the community and surrounding area.
