If I put I am a local hire, but I don't arrive until August-can the principal still hire me? I have an interview tonight!
HelpOthers If you have your orders, it should be fine. Is your EAS set up as local hire?

haha I've heard different things. One way is the way Mary has said, if you have orders you should be fine to still be considered a local hire. In other circumstances, I've heard that you cannot be hired as a local hire until you are actually in the area.

Mrs.C While I don't have specific local hire information, I do know that spousal preference regulations say you can use it up to 30 days before arrival.... it would (kind of) make sense that if you can claim spousal preference only 30 days in advance that you might also be able to claim local hire ahead of time? Could a call to HR provide more insight?

Mrs.C I will add that the DoDEA website defines local hires as: "A local hire is any DoDDS educator who was offered and appointed to a position within the commuting area of the sponsor after arrival in the overseas area.
