How many of you are already teaching/employed outside of DOD? For those of you who are employed with your local district, how does it work if you get a job after you started your contract with your local district? For some reason, this is my biggest fear!
Speak2me It depends... I have worked in districts that have been very reasonable with letting me out of my contact, as long as I've given proper notice (when I've had to relocate for my husband's job). I have also seen districts that have a penalty if you leave within the school year ($500 or so).

Mine let me go willingly when I said my family was moving out of state and I needed to be released from my contract so we could stay together. I also helped find my replacement which helped. CoPurry My school didn't seem to care. I just submitted my leave form today to the district. They stamped it right there, and took my teacher identification and smart key, and said good luck. The entire process took 2 minutes. I guess I was expecting more like a thank you, or maybe the superintendent coming out to shake my hand or something.

Amie Thanks everyone! I was so worried that it would be a big issue, but hopefully it won't!

HelpOthers I think most school districts, just don't want you leaving to work at another district within driving distance. If they know you are moving more than 50 miles away, they are more likely to release you from the contract. If you wait until you have orders, you have evidence of that.
