Does anyone know how APE works in DoDEA? I am a mild/moderate special education teacher in California, and I have just started working on adding APE to my credential. Although I am excited about this addition, if I end up teaching for DoDEA, it looks at if it might be a waste of time and money. From what I have read, it sounds like DoDEA does not offer APE as a separate position or class. Just wondering if this add-on will be useful outside of my current state.
haha It would probably not be directly useful for DoDEA. Even Moderate to Severe students generally just go to a regular PE class with push in support from a paraprofessional. It could be a useful talking point if you ever make it to interview but that's about all I can think of.

HelpOthers There is a possibility if you go to a location where students with more severe needs are served that the school would benefit from these skills, but not sure if they would ask you to provide them as a special education teacher or as a PE teacher. Either way, your pay would be the same and if you can get PE certified... who knows?

Evelyn Thanks, haha and Mary. I definitely see how it could make me an asset in certain settings, but otherwise, not very useful. I think I'll look into other areas to add on.
