Taking an American car is expensive and the cost would be entirely yours. You can buy used cars very easily and inexpensively once you get there. You can ask for an advance once you get there - it's a zero interest loan for up to three months' salary.

As posted, it's generally not possible (or at least not feasible) to bring US made cars to mainland Japan. People do drive SUV's and minivan type vehicles in Japan but I would agree that at times it can make driving, parking etc. more difficult.
