DDESS to DODDS Salary difference

So I have an EDS which DODDS does not recognize but DDESS does. The pay is 13 Gs less to go to DODDS... if I were to get a job at Ramstein would the COLA and housing make up for that? I'm a little worried that I would be taking too big of a hit. I have a family of 7 (including me).

Even if you did pay this amount, the government uses its own determination for exchange rate based on an average for that pay period not the exact date you paid the rent and utilities, usually not in your favor.

The following is a comparison of the DDESS and DoDDS pay scales for teachers at step 15 for DDESS with credit for EdS, vs last year at step 14 for DoDDS with credit for MA+30:

Assuming you are on step 15 (5 years credited with 0 being first step) plus 10 years within DDESS. Assuming not in one of the areas with additional cost of living built-in and that ???? is a teacher (not nurse etc.), the DDESS pay (EdS at step 15) would be $93,212 for the 2018-2019 school-year and $90,497 for the 2017-2018 school-year at the same step. I include this because DoDDS payscale posted is for the 2017-2018 school-year. We will not know the new pay until spring 2019. At that point, we will receive retroactive pay difference (usually increase) in one lump sum. Therefore, it makes sense to compare the income listed for the same school-year.

With DoDDS, Step 14 (your final year) at MA+30 for DoDDS is $78,215 for the 2017-2018 school-year. This does not include COLA as we described earlier, which I think is determined based on the number of dependents and as I stated earlier, usually covers most people's grocery bills (not eating out, but actual groceries). I would surmise that this amount could be $500 per pay period and totaling more than $12,000 per year, increading the pay to $90,215. Additionally, I don't think that COLA is not taxed. Then, you add the fact that your housing expenses are covered (except internet and phone), you will at least break even by switching to DoDDS.

Base pay (you figured that out) + LQA + Post Allowance (DoDEA Teachers in Germany don't get COLA even if people call it that)
