Hi. How do you handle questions about informing students and parents at the start of a school year for a primary class? I got two interview questions about this (one about the parents, one about the children) and I flubbed them. I just wasn't sure what they expected of me there, but I clearly felt that they didn't get the answers they wanted or expected.

To some or many of you, these might be "Duh!" answers, and my excuse is that my experience is college-level, not K12. I said that it would depend on what procedure the school has in place (using logic more than knowledge here), but I don't think I did well with this, although the rest of the interview went well.

Any suggestions are welcome, maybe for next time :)

haha It will vary quite a bit based on principal preference. You can't go wrong with talking about a welcome letter/email and an ongoing weekly/bi-weekly class newsletter. Then using whatever approved methods there are to keep students/parents engaged and informed: class webpage, Schoology, etc.

tony75 TexasTeacher17, the other questions were as covered in this board, specifically how a lesson plan looks like, how I handled an unexpected problem in the classroom. I discussed details of my current job based on some of these questions, to put them into context but they did not directly question me about my job.
