I got an email list!! It's my first one and I'm so excited! How long does it usually take to hear back if you are selected for an interview? Also, any suggestions? Any information on Bahrain?

haha Cool! Anywhere from hours to a month or so. Around a week or two is a fairly typical time frame to hear about an interview.

As for Bahrain, I have generally heard good things. It's the ME but apparently relatively modern and Western friendly (compared to many parts of the ME). I have heard that teachers can/do stay in relatively upscale accommodations and that the pay can also be higher because the school week runs Sun-Monday. This sounds a little strange but we had the same thing when we taught in an int'l school in the ME (not Bahrain). After a while, you just get used to Thursday being the new Friday, Friday being the new Saturday and Sunday being the new Monday.

If you are up for a new adventure for a few years than it could be a good way to get into DoDEA. We started teaching in the ME and it was just fine/enjoyable for a few years. After that every other place seemed much easier to adjust to/enjoy.

As for the interview, these are some things that have been posted in the past by myself and others:

Most of the interviews I have had with DoDDS were the same 7 questions (e.g. Why DoDDS?, Tell me about a successful lesson you did with planning, differentiation, assessment, Tell me about a time you had a challenging situation and how you dealt with it, Tell me etc).

I did have one SPED interview where they asked me about my experiences with an age/disability group specific to their school and how I would deal with certain situations.

1. Tell us about your background 2. Standards (Something about how you use standards) 3. Typical day in your class 4. How you use formatives and summatives 5. Your experience with PLCs 6. How you use technology 7. Why [your subject area]? 8. Something about how you use accommodations 9. Describe your experience with Common Core 10. Describe Continuous School Improvement 11. Whole Language approach 12. Something about team planning 13. How do you use data 14. What does a lesson plan look like

More recently, how do you use data to track student progress and inform/adjust your teaching (e.g. item analysis)? How do you use professional collaboration to improve your teaching and improve student outcomes?

ziggy Bahrain is considered a cheaper Dubai.

There isn't much to do outdoors, the base is relatively small, due to oil prices tanking taxes are going up VERY quickly.
