Hi everyone! Happy New Year! I received a tentative offer for a position that is NTE (not to exceed)...I am currently going through the process of background checks. I just need some guidance, advice, and some peace of mind on what to expect. I'm worried that this is a short term situation for me. With one of the elementary schools closing in South Korea and the fact that I'm under an NTE contract, I'm nervous that I won't have a position available for me when next school year starts. During the interview, the principals did say that the NTE position may very well turn into a "permanent position." But they also mentioned that they couldn't guarantee anything and I understood where they were coming from. My question is this: Has anyone here ever experienced being under an NTE contract before? And if so, what happened the following year?

Many NTE hires go on to be made permanent. Many find that their position ends and they are out of a job. Some are rehired in different positions and are later made permanent. Many are not.

I wish I could give you peace of mind but...See More

IsItFriday? You didn't give us enough information to offer really useful advice.

Are you currently employed in a decent job, or are you unemployed and living in our parent's basement?

And what is the NTE date on the offer? That's an important factor in your consideration.

This may be a great position for you, but if so, that's proba...See More

haha Fair point. I presumed (possibly incorrectly) that the OP was already overseas (essentially a local hire NTE) as HR would not be bringing someone from overseas for an NTE position.
