have 14 years experience teaching elementary school in Florida. Are there some countries that are more popular than others to get a position in? Is getting an elementary position harder than middle or high school? I have a certification to teach social studies up to 12th grade. However, I taught 11th grade Intensive Reading for a few months and that was not for me. Therefore, I have not added that as a target job on the application. I have added five target jobs in the elementary grades. I am teaching at a Title 1 school and there are issues with student behaviors at times. Is this a complaint at the military base schools as well? How is it working with the parents? Not much involvement where I teach. Thanks for any input. Karin :)

Karin Thank you all for your responses. It is much better to have realistic expectations. I will keep working where I am at and not start thinking about a big move. I did not realize how difficult it would be to be hired. Naively, I thought that because applications where taken, there where jobs. haha They will always collect applications for the candidate pool. There will be jobs, it's just a question of when and for who.

DoDEA is a great gig for most people but it is generally better to treat it like an aspirational goal rather than a Plan A or even B (great if it happens but don't stress about it or plan your life around the possibil...See More

Karin Thanks for the advice, haha. I think looking at other international schools is a very wise idea. I am a civilian and think that I am low on the totem pole for a job in the military.

haha Int'l teaching was a good life for us before we got into DoDEA. Check out Int'l Schools Review if you have not already. They have an active free forum and a paid side with school reviews and another forum where you can name schools and ask for feedback.
