I realize getting a position with the DODEA might take years or not happen at all. So, applying at other school overseas might be the way to go. The reason I wanted to go for a teaching job with the government was that I would make more money and that I would get to see more of the world. I have worked at a public elementary school for 14 years and make a bit over 40,000 a year. I am not able to save much. I think I could make quite a bit more that this elsewhere. I am 49 and would like to be able to put some money away. I also think it is time for an adventure! Do any of you know of any good schools that I could apply to? Thanks!
haha If you are serious about it, I would recommend joining one of the recruiters (I would recommend Search Associates). Their school database has information on salary benefits, savings potential, student/faculty demographics, etc. and they host job fairs throughout the hiring season. Woodsie HaHa gives good advice. Schools in China and other parts of Asia pay pretty well and allow for good savings and adventures. Personally, I am a Europe girt. I worked in a school in a developing country in Europe and they paid my rent. The cost of living was very low and we had lots of access to travel. We were able to save quite a bit.
