Do only a certain number of years of experience count for starting salary (if I was lucky enough to be hired)?
I was super excited looking at the salary schedule, I have 17 years of (Non-dodea) experience and an Ed.S, but if only 5 years of experience count, my salary with dodea would be comprable to my current salary.

Yes, I believe they told me here that for stateside, your maximum is step 5. It's different for overseas, though.

Yep. DoDEA Americas only counts 5 years and everyone starts at Step 0, so the highest you could start would be step 5. DoDEA overseas will count up to 10 years and everyone starts at Step 1, so the highest you could start would be Step 11.
