What are the chances both of us get job offers at the same time and place?
What happens if only one of us gets an offer?
Lastly, my wife was offered a position at Ft. Knox. Is it better to take anything just to get into the system, or wait for a position (we are already abroad on our own) in a place near where we prefer to be?
Does turning down an offer hurt is in anyway?

Since you are currently living abroad there is one glitch to be aware of. There is a rule about living in the US at the time you accept the offer. Yes. haha you are correct in the distinction between TQSA and LQSA. Was actually denied both so I was sloppy in my description. I had been living in the hotel for two months still not knowing if I was going to be authorized either.

So, I'm happy it worked out for you but I'm still curious how you managed to get the benefits if they were in fact just following the new policy. Was it because they had not informed you of it at the time you were hired?

haha... the letter of the law was that I should not be offered the benefits. When HR decided that I did not meet the requirements, I was told that I would be given an airplane ticket home and have my household goods shipped back.
