Hello,

I am curious on your opinions. I was a special ed teacher and para in mild/moderate and moderate/severe for about 7 years. I then got my masters for Reading Specialist and Dyslexia Therapy and this is my first year out of SPED. I have been working in an international school for a year as Literacy Coordinator/Reading Specialist/Coach/Learning Support teacher and was just placed on a referral list for a Moderate to Severe classroom with DODEA. The international school is a great resume builder and opportunity since I'm 28. The work environment isn't great but I'm very passionate about Reading and Learning Disabilities and I don't want to break my contract for this DODEA position.

My questions are: how likely am I to get another chance? Would I be stupid to pass up this job and do I just need to use it to get into Dodea (if there is even an interview)?

HelpOthers Agree with haha, except that in some areas, due to lack of screening out for civilians, we do have students with more needs than the military would send. Also, you didn't mention if this was for a stateside position or one overseas. There is a pretty big difference in level of need and support offered.

haha Yes, the students in those classes (only from my personal knowledge/experience at a few schools in Asia and Europe) are generally the children of civilians (e.g. contractors, teachers, GS, etc.). Generally speaking they still seem to be more moderate in impairment/disability to the students I saw in the public schools I was familiar with in the sta...See More

Bairsped733 Thank you guys so much for your input. I have decided to decline the interview as I am very passionate about reading and learning disabilities/learning support. I would want someone passionate about the moderate/severe role to accept the interview. Fingers crossed that this will not burn any bridges and they will consider me for future positions.
